Moai Statues – 1200 year old historical statues in Easter Island

Moai StatuesMoai Statues are human figures carved from rocks of Easter Island. Moai statues have large heads that are three to fifth size of its body. About 1200 - 1500 years ago it was built by people of Easter Island.

Totally 887 statues found in Easter Island. The tallest statue was called Paro (33 ft) height and 82 tons weight. The heaviest statue is in Ahu Tongariki (weight 86 tons).

About 50 statues were carved from tuff (a type of rock consisting of consolidated volcanic ash ejected from vents during a volcanic eruption). After carving it would get rubbed with pumice(a kind of volcanic rock).

The average height of Moai Statue is about 13.3 feet, average width is around 5.25 feet, and average weight around 13.8 tons a piece.
