Machu Picchu – The ancient historical city located in Peru, South America. It is one of Peru's top tourist attraction. It was a 15th century (1450) city locates about 8000 feet above sea level.
In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide Internet poll.
The city was built during the Inca Empire. There is no clear detail available about the city's destruction. Some historical hints shows the people of this city were died, because of an unidentified disease. some says it was ruined by Spanish.
In 1981 Peru declared an area of 326 square kilometers surrounding Machu Picchu as a "Historical Sanctuary".
