Nian - Story behind Chinese New Year Celebration

NianNian is the grandest festival in Chinese tradition. It was also called as New Year day and spring festival in china.

Story of Nian

Nian is an monster lived long back in china. It comes to village to hunt people on first of each lunar month. People suffered because of this and stay inside their home itself during that period.

Finally they found the drawbacks of the monster. They come to know the moster afraid of red colour and huge noise...

So they planned and prepared with red banners and drums to get the monster afraid.

As planned they flag the red banner and made huge noise using drums when the monster comes for hunt. The monster run away and never came back after that and the people set free from fear after that...

Chinese started celebrating this event grantly as Nian Festival.

This is the reason chinese celebrate newyear night with firecrackers, making noise with drums, paper dragons and waving red ribbons and banners ... they believe this will made the evil run away from them and their new year will be full filled with joy.
