Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor, popularly known for his inventions. Electric light bulb, motion picture camera are the great devices that invented by him.
Early Life
Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11th 1847, in Milan, a village in Erie and Huron counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. His parents were Samuel Ogden Edison, Jr and Nancy Matthews Elliott. His father lived in canada. He escaped from Canada in 1837, because he took part in the unsuccessful Mackenzie Rebellion.
Family
Edison married an 16 year old girl, Mary Stilwell on December 25th, 1871. The couple got three childrens. Marion Estelle Edison, Thomas Alva Edison Jr and William Leslie Edison.
Mary Stilwell Edison died on August 9, 1884 because of brain tumor. Then he married Mina Miller, daughter of the inventor Lewis Miller, on February 24, 1886. This couple got three childrens Madeleine Edison , Charles Edison , and Theodore Edison.
Inventions
Edision holds 1,093 US patents in his name. Mechanical vote recorder, battery for electric car, electrical power, recorded music and motion pictures are key inventions by Edison.
Phonograph is the first great invention of Edision. Electric light is the another challenge successfully done by Alva Edison after many failure attempts. Motion pictures is the another great achievement by Thomas Alva Edison in his career.
Death
Thomas Alva Edison died on October 18, 1931, in his home, "Glenmont" in West Orange, New Jersey. Edision purchased this house in 1886 as a wedding gift for Mina. He is buried behind this home only.
