Kerala Sampark Kranti Express train operated by the Indian Railways is the longest train route in India. It was travelling about 3415Kms (as per Wikipedia info).
Running
The train runs between Vikram Sarabhai Terminal in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala and Chandigarh in Punjab. The train travels via New Delhi, the capital city of India.
Sampark Kranti Express is actually a series of trains.
Naming
Sampark Kranti is a Sanskrit word, which means "Contact Revolution". The train has minimal stoppages and high speed running and not so expensive like Rajdhani Express which was fully Air-Conditioned. Hence it named so by Indian Railways.
It was announced in the Interim Budget of 2004-2005 by Nitish Kumar, Minister of Railways. Initially it runs between Kerala and New Delhi. Later it was extended to Chandigarh.
